Their personality, etc...but, I think movies & dinner are always good.Or long walks on the beach. :) Heh heh.. I think my ideal 1st date would proberley take place somewhere exciting & romantic, i.e. Paris, Vienna -oh, Vienna just reminded me of my truly ideal date. The movie "Before Sunrise" - that is, spending an entire night just exploring some amazing town/city, walking around with someone I find fascinating and sharing our thoughts/dreams/life experiences, while coming across interesting local characters and trying new things and Okay, it would start late afternoon and we'd get in a car and drive out to a field with a hill covered in nice grass and no cow dung. Then we'd walk to the top of the hill, share a tub of ice-cream and then roll down the hill till we felt sick. Then because we wouldn't be able to move we'd lie in the grass and watch the sky turn black or Something casual, probably. A nice, neutral setting, with other people, where you can just talk and get to know each other. I guess I'm kind of old fashioned in that respect. I don't think romance and fireworks has to happen on the first date. Dinner and a movie is fine. That way, you can talk over dinner, but if you really are hard pressed for conversation, you always have the movie to talk about-- somekind of shared experience last but not least, Is there an actual "ideal" 1st date? I mean, really some things you think you'll hate, you'll actually LIKE and if you have a "perfect" 1st date all planned out, if it actually happens and something goes wrong it would be such a letdown that it would be ideal anymore. So just let what happens happen and everyone will be a lot happier... or something like that.
