The Company
Robert Half International are seeking a Medical Secretary to assist a busy department within a Wirral / Chester based NHS organisation. This role will be on interim basis and will be a great opportunity for any candidate.
The Role
The purpose of the role will be to provide secretarial duties for a busy NHS department. The ideal candidate must have at least two years experience as a Medical Secretary and have the relevant qualifications for this role. Main duties will include the following:- Typing from dictation (audio and/or shorthand) of clinic letters, discharge summaries, operation notes, medical reports, theatre lists, references and general administrative correspondence etc in accordance with locally agreed timescales. - Take minutes of meetings, type agendas etc.. - Deal with all enquiries (by letter, telephone, fax, e-mail or in person) from patients, General Practitioners, other Consultants and hospitals. The post holder will be expected to work with diplomacy and in a confidential manner when dealing with sensitive information and when dealing with distressed patients/relatives about results, admissions, appointments, advice regarding medication and future care. - Retrieval (lifting and/or transporting) of medical records and X-ray packets relating to queries from patients, GPs etc, thus enabling medical staff to deal with such enquiries as quickly as possible.- Undertaking general office duties, ie dealing with incoming and outgoing correspondence, filing, faxing, emailing, photocopying, answering telephones etc. - Management of prescription requests, ensuring patient details are recorded, details checked for authenticity and prescriptions issued within a specified timescale. - Support the day to day organisation and management responsibilities of the Consultant, junior medical staff and nurse specialists, by arrangement of meetings, appointments, lectures etc, including the upkeep of his/her diary and filing systematically of all general correspondence, i.e. minutes, confidential references and other documents as required. - Liaison with other agencies within the Trust, eg, central admissions, wards, bed managers, pharmacy, x-ray, path lab, other para medical staff, out-patient department and medical records etc. In addition, liaison with external agencies as and when required, eg GP Practices, police, solicitors, pharmaceutical companies, schools and other hospitals regarding all aspects of patient care.- Provide administrative support and co-ordinate meetings/conferences both nationally and internationally, arranging travel, accommodation etc as and when such events occur.- The post holder would be required to undertake training of the hospital Meditech system, utilising this system to make out-patient appointments for patients, view clinics and change patient demographic details on a regular basis. This may also include liaising with the medical records department with a view to arranging extra clinic sessions for consultants, setting up new clinics, cancelling or reducing clinics as and when required.
Salary & Benefits
£8 per hour plus holiday pay,Temporary basis.Wirral based
